Le German elections they close with the victory of the Social Democrats, which undermine the conservative coalition of Christian Democrats from first place. According to an interim official tally announced this morning by the Federal Election Commission, the SPD won 25,7% of the votes, while the CDU-CSU alliance stops at 24,1%, the worst result ever. THE Verdi are confirmed as the third political force of Germany with the 14,8%, followed by the liberal party FDP with 11,5%.
At this point, it is clear that the task of forming a government will be entrusted to Olaf Scholz, leader of the Social Democrats. The task of the chancellor in pectoris, however, will not be simple, because - numbers in hand - to have the majority it is not enough for the SPD to ally with the Greens: the support of the Liberals will also be needed. A decisive detail for the future of European politics, because the presence of the FDP in government will shift the center of gravity of the executive to the right, probably wrecking the project to change the budget rules hoped for by the Mediterranean countries.
But before thinking about Brussels, the puzzle of Berlin remains to be solved, where time frame for government formation they promise to be really long, to the point that – according to the latest forecasts – the negotiations will not end before Christmas.
“There is still no clear majority, but the SPD has certainly won the elections – Scholz said – the Cdu and the Csu have not only lost many votes, but they have actually also received a message from the voters, namely that they should not be in government but go to the opposition. Our job now is to do what the citizens want. Do not prioritize our needs but form good governance that can give the right direction and lead us towards the future. Germany must play a sovereign role within Europe The votes that our citizens have bestowed on us express their trust in us but we ask ourselves for pragmatism and naturally we must work calmly and with extreme transparency”.
