Germany: trade surplus grows less than expected

In June 2011, German exports decreased, while imports increased slightly. The trade balance remains positive, at 12,7 billion, but is down both on a trend basis and compared to analysts' forecasts.

Germany: trade surplus grows less than expected

In June, the German trade balance recorded a surplus of 12,7 billion euros. Analysts had forecast a positive balance of 14 billion, considering the May surplus of 14,8 billion euros and that of June 2010 of 14,3 billion.

The data was released by the German Statistical Office which added that exports fell to 88,5 billion euros (a drop of 1,2% compared to May) while imports increased by 0,3% on the month, at 75,6 billion.

The balance relative to services has improved, negative in June by 1,5 billion (it was -1,8 billion in June 2010), and income items, with a surplus of 4,6 billion, against 4,5 .11,9 last year. The current account balance therefore recorded a surplus of 13,4 billion, down from 2010 billion in June 6,7 but up from XNUMX in May.

In seasonally adjusted terms, Germany's trade balance came in at 11,5 billion euros, down from 12,9 billion in May.

Frankfurt, in the midst of the high volatility of the European stock exchanges, lost the most: 5,5% at 11.00.
