The Zew index, which measures expectations for the economic trend in a six-month perspective, rose to -53,8 points, improving on the November figure and even exceeding the expectations of analysts who predicted a deterioration.

Confidence in the economy is recovering in Germany. The Zew index, which measures expectations for the economic trend for the coming six months, is in fact rose to -53,8 points in December from -55,2 last month.

For the Zew this is the first improvement for nine months. The data is also higher than analysts' expectations which predicted a deterioration to -55,5 points.
