Unexpected stop for the German economy: analysts had forecast a decidedly smaller decline, of just 0,3 points – This is the largest drop since January 2009.

Germany, industrial production flop: -2,9% in December

Sudden stop for the German industrial production, which recorded a 2,9% decrease. In November, the figure had not shown any change (revised from the previous -0,6%). The one announced today is the largest drop since January 2009. Analysts had forecast a much more moderate drop, just 0,3%.

According to Berlin's Ministry of Economy, however, orders are stabilizing and the improvement in confidence indicators is a sign that the weakness is over. Yesterday they were published the numbers on the progress of orders to industry which, again in December, recorded a growth of 1,7%.
