Germany, 2011 GDP +3% on an annual basis

Growth still sustained and in line with expectations for Europe's leading economy, which nonetheless shows a slowdown of 0,6% compared to the annual progress recorded last year – Deficit/GDP ratio at 1%.

The locomotive of Europe continues to grind. Despite the crisis and the danger of recession looming over all of Europe, the Germany archives 2011 with a GDP growing by 3% on an annual basis, while the deficit/GDP ratio stood at 1%.

The result - communicated by the German Statistical Office - is in line with economists' expectations and even more than positive, even if it marks a slowdown compared to the progress recorded at the end of 2010 on 2009, which had been of the 3,6%.

In that case, however, it was the fastest growing rate since the country's reunification. In short, Berlin confirms its economic leadership in the old continent and does so on the very day when Mario Monti lands in the German capital for an important new interview with the chancellor Angela Merkel.
