The Ifo index, which measures business confidence, rose in Germany, passed in January to 104,2 points from 102,4 in December. The analysts who expected a more limited growth, at 103 points, were positively surprised.
The two components of the Ifo also exceeded expectations. The indicator on current conditions reached 108 points from 107,1 in December, against estimates of 107,2. Expectations clearly accelerated, from 97,9 points to 100,5, against a consensus of 98,8 points.
