The Ifo survey describing the German business confidence climate showed a slight improvement in March, the fifth in a row, moving from 109,7 points in February (revised from 109,6) to 109,8. Analysts agreed that the index would settle at 109,6.
The Ifo index on current conditions remained at 117,4, stable compared to last month, but, also in this case, better than the operators' expectations, which predicted a drop to 117,0 points. The other sub-index, the one relating to business expectations rose from 102,4 points in February to 102,7, exceeding the consensus which stood at 102,6 points.
