Retail sales plummet in Germany, dragging downwards the data relating to the whole Eurozone. According to data released by Eurostat, in fact, in the month of June sales made by the retail trade they fell by 2,3% month-on-month in Germany, and by 0,6% in the currency union as a whole. The decline follows the already weak value on May, +0,1%.
On an annual basis, retail sales in the Eurozone recorded an increase of 1,2%, more than halved compared to the +2,6% recorded in May. looking atEU 28, on the other hand, there was a monthly decrease of 0,5% and an increase on an annual basis of 2%.
The monthly decline in the volume of retail sales in the Eurozone is mainly due to the contraction of 0,8% recorded by the "food and tobacco" sector and by that of 0,2% recorded by non-food products. Fuel sales stable.
