Gentiloni in New York: "UN returns to Libya"

“The illusion of responding to the challenges we face by defending each one's own national interest, pitting country against country is an illusion. We don't respond to these challenges with walls, we respond with a common work”: said Prime Minister Paolo Gentiloni in a press conference at the UN Rose Garden before his speech at the United Nations general assembly.

"Today is an opportunity to measure the method of multilateral work," he added. The Prime Minister will address many issues at the United Nations, says Gentiloni, "we will devote ourselves to the question of Libya, there is a summit between the main leaders and I will see Serraj in a few minutes to prepare the meeting". The aim is to "propose, ask, urge the United Nations to return in force to Libya. We need it for the peace process, to stabilize the country and for the migration issue because the conditions of refugees in Libya need to be monitored and improved in terms of human rights. And no one can help us better than the UN”.

The Premier also highlighted the importance of creating a "multilateral" initiative, which does not involve only Europe.
