The plans for the reconstruction of the Morandi Bridge and for the return to normality in Genoa are not yet clear and the options on the table of the Government are many and often contradictory, but certainly the Cassa Depositi e Prestiti, the company of the Treasury and banking foundations which manages 250 billion of Italian postal savings, will have a fundamental management role. Yesterday's visit in Genoa of the new CEO of the CDP, Fabrizio Palermo, is an eloquent signal, even if the manager has been careful not to make any statements.
It is not yet clear whether the CDP will be called to ad enter the share capital of Autostrade assuming a participation that allows it to have a lot of say in the matter but it will certainly have a leading role in the operational phase of the reconstruction and that is the reconstruction of the Morandi Bridge, after the part still unsafe has been demolished, the reactivation of the normal road system and the reconstruction of the houses and the neighborhood hit in recent days by the tragic collapse of the bridge.
To best play its role of director of reconstruction, Cassa Depositi e Prestiti will make use of the collaboration - especially technical - of its subsidiaries, namely of Ansaldo, Saipem, Snam, Fincantieri and Terna, which have top-level professionals (above all engineers but not only) who can become very valuable in this phase. “If they want – Fincantieri's CEO, Giuseppe Bono said yesterday – we'll redo the Morandi flyover: in Belgium we are building four bridges and we have the necessary skills. If they ask us we are ready”.
Of course, the roles of the various companies that rotate in the public area are all to be defined and this too will be directed by Cassa depositi e prestiti, but the emergency calls for a general mobilization on which the Government intends to leverage. Starting immediately.
