News home Generals: Caltagirone, the group's second shareholder with 9% of the capital, yesterday presented its list of candidates who will compete directly with the one led by the current CEO Philippe Donnet, who aims to be reconfirmed at the helm of the first Italian insurance company with the support of Mediobanca, the Lion's first shareholder.
The novelties of the Caltagirone list, which the Roman entrepreneur leads personally and which he will probably have the support of Leonardo DelVecchio and Crt Foundation, are the presidential candidacy of Claudius Costamagna, high-profile banker with over 20 years at Goldman Sachs and former president of Cassa depositi e prestiti (Cdp), and the surprise one of Luciano Cirina, head of Generali's Eastern European activities reporting directly to Donnet, who obviously will have to leave his current position at the top of the Leone.
Generali, Caltagirone presents the list: here are all the candidates
Generali, Caltagirone presented a list made up of 13 candidates, of which 12 are independent equally divided between women and men. In addition to Costamagna and Cirinà, several names stand out among the new candidates:
- Flavio Cattaneo, former CEO of Terna, Ntv, Rai and Tim;
- Marina Brogi, economist and board member of Mfe;
- Roberta Neri, former CEO of Enav;
- Alberto Cribiore, senior banker and former Global Chairman of Merrill Lynch; Maria Varsellona, future General Counsel Global of Unilever;
- Paola Schwizer, economist and professor at the University of Parma;
- Andrea Scrosati, Global CEO and Coo of Freemantle and already at the top of Sky;
- Stephen Marsaglia, long-time investment banker and former right-hand man of Alberto Nagel in Mediobanca;
- Nicoletta Montella, head of NTV's legal department;
- Patricia Michela Giangualano, member of the board of directors of Leonardo, Ferragamo and Saipem.
"The selected profiles - explains an official note from Caltagirone - express a diversified set of experiences, knowledge and skills gained in national and international organizational and operational contexts of equal complexity".
Waiting for the industrial plan of Caltagirone and then battle in the assembly
After the presentation of the list of candidates for the new Generali board, now we wait the industrial plan of Caltagirone alternative to the one presented by Donnet and expects to understand above all if the leap in quality and size desired by Caltagirone himself and Del Vecchio for Leone will also make available the conspicuous financial resources that the company's extraordinary growth, i.e. through M&A operations, will inevitably requires.
When everything will be clear, but also expects the presentation of third list of candidates for the board by Assogestioni, the battle will move to the field and that is to the highly anticipated assembly of Trieste on 29 April, where the balance will be represented by institutional funds, who hold a large part of the capital of Leo and whose orientation is currently difficult to predict. Of course, the countdown has already begun.
