Generali revives Piazza Affari, Ferrari swerves

After the data on employment in the United States, the euro strengthens to 1,186 against the dollar, from 1,180 yesterday evening. Private US companies created 178.000 new jobs in July, down from 191.000 in June, a revised figure from 158.000. The consensus expected 190.000 new jobs. Donald Trump ratified the Russia sanctions law with his signature.

Relations between Rome and Paris are always at high tension. On the Fincantieri front -1,29%, Minister Carlo Calenda argued in Parliament that “The government will maintain its firm line while always keeping a channel of constructive dialogue open with the French government. We believe that all the conditions exist to find an agreement on Stx and move forward on the partnership project between Fincantieri and Naval Group". 

Calenda himself also announced uinvestigation into Telecom Italia +0,29% to verify if the conditions exist for exercising the golden power after the press release of July 28 with which the control by the French Vivendi was effectively made official.

Among the stocks, Generali stands out +2,8%, after the publication of half-yearly results and when speculation reignites on the possible sale by Mediobanca of +0,97% of a higher stake than expected. Piazzetta Cuccia has already announced the drop from 13% to 10% of the Lion of Trieste and could drop even more, even if Equita analysts have shown themselves skeptical about this possibility.

Ferrari stock under fire in Piazza Affari -3,66%. Sergio Marchionne confirmed the group's utility vehicle project ("but you have to shoot me before I make an SUV") and the possibility of doubling production, but did not review, as the market hoped, targets for 2017. In the first six months, revenues rose to 1,74 billion (+17%).

The banks suffer (European Stoxx -0,9%) following the fall of Société Générale , France's third largest bank, down 3,9% after announcing disappointing results, with profit down 28%. In particular, investors are concerned about a new provision of 300 million euros for unspecified legal disputes. 

Sales on Intesa -0,55% and on Unicredit -1,13% while the board meeting is in progress: the results for the second quarter will be announced tomorrow morning.

After passing for the first time the threshold of 22 thousand points (+11% since January) the Dow Jones index +0,1% goes back together with the other US lists. The only title in evidence is Apple, with an increase of more than 5% compared to the day before. The capitalization of the stock exceeded 827 billion dollars. The performance of the Apple supported Stm +0,9% in Piazza Affari. The Nasdaq-0,6 was much weaker and, above all, the S&P index which showed a loss of 1%.
