The FEDORA – Generali Prize for Opera was awarded yesterday to the companies Wide Open Opera and Landmark Productions of Dublin for the co-production opera 'The Second Violinist' by Donnacha Dennehy and Enda Walsh. The ceremony took place in Salzburg (Austria) during the Salzburg Whitsun Festival. The Generali Group, actively engaged in promoting awareness of music and supporting artistic talents, is supporting FEDORA – The European Circle of Philanthropists of Opera and Ballet for the second consecutive year to enhance talent and their creativity through an award dedicated to new opera productions.

Philippe Donnet, Group CEO of Assicurazioni Generali, stated: “Generali is actively engaged in the promotion of musical culture and heritage and in supporting creativity, talent and innovation. We are proud to support this partnership with FEDORA, empowering a new generation of talented artists to contribute to the development of opera in Europe, nurture new productions and share this heritage with the community."

The award recognizes talented international co-production teams, formed by partners who collaborate in the creation of new works, created by artists with different musical backgrounds. Fedora values the staging of plays that have been composed or rediscovered in recent times or that have not yet been performed. The aim is to preserve and ensure the transmission of musical heritage, as well as to promote the continuous creative development of young talents and this art form.

'The Second Violinist', an Irish co-production with England and the United States, will be staged on 27th July at the Black Box Theater in Galway (Ireland) as part of the Galway International Arts Festival. The work tells the story of the second violinist of an ensemble. FEDORA works in close collaboration with the organization Opera Europa – the Professional Association of Opera Houses and Festivals in Europe (Professional Association of Opera Houses and Opera Festivals in Europe), a leading professional network representing over 170 opera companies and opera festivals in 43 European countries.
