Generali, new climate strategy: divests from coal and focuses on green

Generali's Board of Directors has approved the climate change strategy which envisages 3,5 billion euros of new green investments by 2020 and the divestment of 2 billion from coal. A note reports it.

At the same time, "the offer of products with an environmental value is increasing" and a "dialogue with the stakeholders is started to favor the transition towards a low environmental impact society".

With reference to the current exposure to the coal sector, equal to approximately 2 billion, Generali "will dispose of equity investments and will gradually divest from bond investments, bringing them to maturity or evaluating the possibility of divesting them before maturity".

The Group CEO, Philippe Donnet, declared: “Environmental protection and the adoption of effective actions to tackle climate change are central issues for Generali. With this action strategy, which follows a series of initiatives launched some time ago, the company strengthens its leadership role as a responsible company, to contribute to a healthy and sustainable society".
