Generali Italia, Sesana: "This is how we are revolutionizing insurance"

“In two and a half years we have thought, executed and adopted a radical change. We've always been solid in our craft and today we're able to run faster." These are the words of Marco Sesana, Country Manager and CEO of Generali Italia and Global Business Lines, in an interview with the newspaper Avvenire and focused on the new role of insurance companies in an era in which technology and Big Data are revolutionizing the world of policies . Without however, according to the manager, making the human relationship secondary.

“Today – explains Sesana to Avvenire – all the 1.500 agencies of the group I am able to manage entirely digitally and on the move, via tablet, the pre-sale and sale process of a policy, so much so that over 50% of policies are now completely digital”. This it does not penalize but rather benefits the work of the agents, who can now “dedicate more time to understanding customer needs and offering solutions that bring together different products, structured for specific needs, whereas before they had to manage a lot of bureaucracy and explain technical aspects to customers. You don't build trust with a robot, we are in the squares, on the territory with our agents. We do a business based on trust and trust needs a relationship”.

The idea is the one Generali has mentioned several times in recent months, and also expressed in the new business plan of the group, presented a month ago in Milan: “The idea – reiterates the CEO of Generali Italia – is of make the insurance company a life partner of people”. In this light, Generali Italia is also consolidating its leadership in integrated welfare with Welion, the new group company established in 2017. “Market forecasts say that in the next ten years private healthcare spending in Italy will increase by 25 billion euros: this is one of those sectors in which we want to be protagonists. We are already aiming for it now, it will not change the results of the next quarter but it will give us great satisfaction in the medium term”, Sesana told Avvenire.

In addition to the expansion of the business, there is also the great digital transformation, which concerns Big Data, the so-called Insurtech and connected mobility. And that has made it possible to offer new products, such as for example the "Sei in auto con stile" policy which, thanks to a satellite device, interacts with the customer to allow for greater safety and convenience: "We don't just pay for damages – concludes Sesana – but we try to help change the driving style to ensure that the accident does not happen. It's better for us, for the customer and for society”.
