Pensions, gender gap: 500 euros less for women

The gender gap that affects women throughout their lives manifests itself, particularly odiously, even in pension treatments, as documented by the INPS annual report

Pensions, gender gap: 500 euros less for women

The gender gap also affects pensions. The data that emerge from the latest INPS annual report speak for themselves: on average, Italian women receive 498 euros less per month than men.

In 2020, says the social security institution, 856.004 pensions were paid, with an average monthly amount of 1.243 euros, but 470.181 women received checks for 1.033 euros against the 1.498 euros paid to 385.823 men.

It is clear that careers, years of work and contributions weigh on the pension gap, but gender discrimination remains odious and is one of the worst in Europe. And it won't change without reforms. The trend towards the gender gap in pensions is also confirmed in the first months of 2021 with the majority of women retiring but with lower benefits than men.

It will be seen whether after exceeding Quota 100, the Government and the political forces will find a way to at least gradually correct the unsustainable discrimination that women suffer even when they retire.
