“I'm sure i relations between the United States and Italy will intensify further." American Treasury Secretary Timothy Geithner is convinced of this when he met Prime Minister Mario Monti in Milan today, a few hours before the Brussels summit. The Italian government is committed to a “very strong” reform agenda and the US will give Italy and Europe "all the necessary support" to get out of this crisis situation.
Geithner reiterated that Mario Monti enjoys an elevated "international credibility and that Europe, moving towardstax integration, is following the right direction towards a reform that it is “an important requirement” for the European Union.
Monti announced that in January he will visit the White House to continue strengthening relations between Italy and the United States.
