They ended with a “bridge proposal” i talks in Doha, started yesterday and concluded today and promoted by United States, Egypt e Qatar to reach, between Israel e Hamas, an agreement starting from the ceasefire in Gaza Strip and the return of the Israeli hostages. Doha talks, what the proposed bridge to Gaza says

The mediators, however, are more optimistic and, in the joint final note, applaud the talks, defining them as "serious, constructive and conducted in a positive atmosphere", and which concluded with the promise of "a new meeting in Cairo before the end of next week“. A delegation from Israel and, indirectly, also representatives of Hamas participated in the talks.

As for the “bridging proposal” that will move more quickly towards a definitive agreement, the mediators speak of “a proposal that reduces gaps between the parties and is consistent with the principles established by President Biden on May 31, 2024″, i.e. peace road map in three phases conceived by the White House, and also supported by “Security Council Resolution 2735”. It also ensures that “the proposal” developed “is based on areas of agreement reached this week and fills the remaining gaps in order to allow rapid implementation of the agreement."

Finally, it is reiterated that "there is no more time to waste and neither party can accept excuses for further postponements. It's time to release the hostages and the prisoners, of start the ceasefire and to implement this agreement”, just as the Israeli army orders new evacuations of civilians in Gaza, and the death toll from October 7th exceeds quota 40 thousand.

Doha talks, what the USA, Qatar and Egypt talked about

According to the international press, among the issues addressed in the Qatari capital was the issue of the so-called "Philadelphia corridor", between Gaza and Egypt, and the "Netzarim corridor". It is through this crossing, in fact, that the inhabitants of the northern Strip should return to their homes. There also remains the question of Hamas fighters, who according to Tel Aviv should not remain in the northern part of the Strip. However, according to the American media, one should be held today phone call between American President Joe Biden, Egyptian President Abdel Fattah Al-Sisi andEmir of Qatar Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani. Secretary of State Antony Blinken, according to White House sources, is expected to arrive in Israel on Sunday to meet the Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu Monday. Also noteworthy is the call that the authorities of Qatar they did to those of theIran to update Tehran on the progress of the negotiating table. In fact, there is fear of a direct conflict between Israel on the one hand and Iran - with allied groups Hezbollah and Hamas – on the other. Tehran, which has made any act of retaliation against the Jewish State conditional on the success of the talks, is becoming a central player in this negotiation process.

Gaza, what is Hamas's position?

In all of this, however, it is the position of Hamas to make the difference: Hamas rejects in fact the “new Israeli conditions” included in the proposal of the mediating countries to reach a truce in Gaza. They told theAfp two leaders of the Palestinian Islamic movement, at the end of two days of negotiations in Doha. The "new" conditions require keeping Israeli troops in the Gaza Strip, along the border with Egypt, one of the sources said. “We will accept nothing less than a complete ceasefire, a complete withdrawal of Israeli troops from the Strip, the return of displaced people and an agreement to exchange Israeli hostages for Palestinian prisoners. The scenario, therefore, remains complex.
