Gasparri: “Does Goldman Sachs get rid of the BTPs? May the Government revoke your mandate on Fintecna”

The president of the PDL group in the Senate Maurizio Gasparri asks the government to revoke the consultancy assignment given to Goldman Sachs for the sale of Fintecna to Cassa depositi e prestiti. The request is motivated by the consideration that in recent days the American business bank has drastically reduced its exposure to Italian government bonds, selling 90% of those held in the first quarter and dropping to 191 million dollars from 2,51 billion as of March 31, 2011.

“It is a story that offends the dignity of Italy”, says Gasparri in a press release asking that “the office entrusted to those who behave in this way by influencing the performance of the markets be revoked. Or advice and relationships from the past and present prevent a choice of clarity? Do we have a government that is free or on a leash?” concludes Gasparri.

This morning the director of Corriere della Sera Ferruccio De Bortoli had already stigmatized the situation: Goldman no longer believes in BTPs, perhaps the government could revoke the role of advisor to the American bank in the sale of Fintecna”.

An assignment that the Treasury had entrusted on August 3 to Goldman Sachs as an expert to value the state stake in Fintecna, while Société Générale was conferred for the valuation of the stake in Simest.
