The repeated alarms coming from Eastern Europe, in particular from the Ukrainian situation, still don't seem to frighten the managers of energy reserves - above all gas - who say they are ready to face any eventuality, but that for now the danger of drastic cuts to supplies is almost remote. This was announced by the CEO of Snam Carlo Malacarne who announced at the meeting in Rimini that his company aims to store 11 billion cubic meters of gas, sufficient to cover Italy's needs for the three winter months. Even Enel, although cautious about defining the situation in Ukraine as not worrying, says it is convinced that major upheavals in gas transaction volumes are not on the agenda.
“We are not particularly worried that the security of supplies in Italy may fail – explained Malacarne from the Romagna meeting. We are working in coordination with the neighboring countries to make the best use of the existing structures and then use the storage system which, I remind you, is one of the largest in Europe, so we have to try to completely fill the storage for 11 billion meters cubes by October and, among other things, work to solve any gas shortages for extended periods during the two or three winter months”.
For his part, the CEO of Enel Francesco Starace specified, on the sidelines of a round table in Rimini itself, that “the situation in Ukraine in itself is cause for concern. We don't believe that there are particular alarms from the point of view of the gas offer, but an alarm for a bigger problem, on the security in general of a large industrial country”.
