The Italian company has signed an agreement with Pipechina, a new Chinese energy infrastructure company - In addition to work on infrastructure, the two groups will do research together and evaluate joint investments

Gas, Snam: new strategic agreement in China

Snam has signed a strategic cooperation agreement with Pipechina, China's new energy infrastructure company. The Italian company communicates this in a note, specifying that the agreement was signed by the managing director of Snam, Marco Alverà, and by PipeChina's number one, Zhang Wei, during a meeting in Rome between the foreign ministers of the two countries : Luigi Di Maio and Wang Yi.

Under the agreement, Snam – active in China for about two years – will support PipeChina on a technical level for build, manage and maintain natural gas transportation, regasification and storage infrastructures.

Furthermore, Snam and PipeChina will continue joint research and development activities in the energy transition in China, as well as experiments in the hydrogen sector. Snam, the note reads, was "among the first infrastructure companies in the world to introduce hydrogen at 10% by volume into the natural gas transport network".

Finally, the two companies will reason on any joint investments in China, where Snam will be a privileged partner of PipeChina, and globally. The one with Snam is the first international industrial agreement signed by PipeChina.
