Gas: Russia ready to reopen the Yamal-Europe pipeline. Contacts with other countries- Novak to Tass

La Russia is ready to resume gas supplies to Europe through Yamal-Europe pipeline, which was previously discontinued for political reasons. This was announced by the Deputy Prime Minister of Russia Alexander novak to the Russian state news agency Tass.
“Il European market remains relevant, since the gas shortage persists and we have every opportunity to resume supplies. For example, the pipeline Yamal Europe, which was stopped for political reasons, remains unused,” Novak said.
“Today – he underlined – we can say with certainty that there is a demand for our gas” by the European consumers, “so we continue to see Europe as a potential market for our products. However, it is clear that a large-scale campaign was launched against us, which ended in the sabotage of Nord Stream."

Moscow is willing to take back i supplies via the Yamal-Europe pipeline and is holding negotiations for a increase in supplies through Turkey after the creation of a gas hub in Erdogan's country. Right now, writes the Tax, Russia supplies gas through the TurkStream, which is currently operating at full capacity, while 42 million cubic meters of gas pass through the Ukrainian route daily, approximately one third of the transit volume envisaged in the contract.

The Yamal-Europe pipeline usually runs west, but has been rerouted since December 2021 as Poland has given up buying from Russia to tap gas stored in Germany. In May, Warsaw terminated its deal with Russia after refusing Moscow's request to pay in rubles.

Novak also said that Moscow expects exports of 21 billion cubic meters (bcm) of liquefied natural gas (LNG) to Europe in 2022.

“We managed to significantly increase LNG supplies to Europe this year,” Novak said. “In the 11 months of 2022 they have increased to 19,4 billion cubic meters, and by the end of the year 21 billion cubic meters are expected”.

Moscow looking for agreements with other markets

Novak also said Russia agreed with Azerbaijan to increase supplies of gas for internal consumption. “In the future, when they increase gas production, we can discuss trade,” she said. Moscow is also discussing increased gas supplies to Kazakhstan e to Uzbekistan. Novak also said that, in the long run, Russia can send its natural gas to markets of Afghanistan and Pakistan, either using the infrastructure of Central Asia, or with an exchange from the territory of Iran. .

Germany and Poland have applied for 2023

“Europe – Novak then observed to Tass – was a key market for the sale of our petroleum products. Let's wait and see what decisions they make in the long run. At the moment we have no idea how our fuel can be replaced.” Novak does not rule out that different countries may ask for be exempt from the embargo on supplies of Russian petroleum products. “They will probably resort to exemptions, as was the case with oil, when restrictions did not apply to supplies of pipelines, refineries in Bulgaria, the Czech Republic and Slovakia. Germany and Poland, which have declared their rejection of Russian oil, have also applied for 2023."
