Natural gas, Eni enters the largest LNG project in the world in Qatar: partnership signed

THEEni enter the largest project in the world of liquefied natural gas (LNG) in Qatar. The Italian group led by Claudio Descalzi was selected by QatarEnergy as new international partner for the expansion of the North Field East project in the Gulf country. Eni itself announced it, specifying that the partnership agreement, which implies the creation of a new joint venture (75% QatarEnergy and 25% Eni), was signed yesterday. North Field East is expected to go into production in 2025. The result is that more gas will arrive in Italy.

Great satisfaction for Eni for the success in Qatar. "The agreement - commented the CEO Descalzi - is a significant milestone for Eni and is part of the objective of the diversification. I trust that the new strategic partnership will be able to give us further help, in terms of greater gas availability on the market". The project will increase the security of the world's gas supply.

Energy emergency: new meetings of the Government and the EU this week

The times for completing the North Field East, although rapid, are not immediate and this leaves open the search for solutions to deal with the emergency caused by the cut in gas supplies from Russia to Europe. In view of the winter it will be necessary to fill the depots of storage: today they are at 54% and will have to reach at least 80-90%.

A meeting is scheduled for tomorrow in Rome Emergency technical committee and monitoring of natural gas set up in the Ministry of Ecological Transition, which does not exclude passing from a state of pre-alarm to the declaration of "alarm". Then Minister Roberto Cingolani will take stock of the gas supply companies.

The Government is also thinking about an extension for another quarter of the cutting system charges on electricity bills in addition to reduction of excise duties on petrol to cater for families and businesses.

But an important appointment on the energy emergency is scheduled for 23 and 24 June internationally with the meeting of European Council, in which Italy hopes to bring home the ceiling on the price of gas as promised by German Chancellor Olaf Scholz to our Prime Minister Mario Draghi during his recent trip to Kiev.
