Le Russian works exhibited in Milan in the museum of Galleries of Italy they will be returned at the Hermitage in St. Petersburg solo at the end of the “Grand Tour” exhibition, due to the 27 March. The clarification comes from Intesa Sanpaolo, sponsor of the initiative, after the Russian cultural authorities reached a compromise to mitigate the initial requests from Moscow, which a few days ago - due to the conflicts related to the conflict in Ukraine - had demanded the immediate return of all works of art loaned abroad.

The Bank "confirms that, thanks to the agreement reached by the Hermitage of St. Petersburg with the Russian Ministry of Culture, on the basis of which the request for immediate withdrawal of the works loaned by the museum to the Gallerie d'Italia is attenuated - reads the note from Intesa Sanpaolo - it will be possible to ensure that the Russian works can remain on public display in the "Grand Tour" exhibition in Milan until it closes on March 27, as initially planned, with positive effects for visitors to the exhibition".

The “Grand Tour” exhibition hosts paintings, sculptures and objets d'art among Neoclassicism e Romanticism from important national and international collections. Along the exhibition you will encounter landscapes, views, portraits, life scenes and reproductions of ancient monuments, works commissioned or purchased by foreign collectors who intended to bring the "dream of Italy" with them.

The organization of the exhibition

The exhibition was promoted by Intesa Sanpaolo with the High Patronage of the President of the Republic, in partnership with the Hermitage Museum of St. Petersburg but also with the National Archaeological Museum of Naples. The curators are Fernando Mazzocca, Stefano Grandesso and Francesco Leone.
