All Galleries of Italy – Milan of Intesa Sanpaolo, starting from Sunday 6 October, is presented to the public for the first time Surface Veil IV, an extraordinary painting by the American artist Robert Ryman, one of the most significant exponents of Minimal Art, coming from the Luigi and Peppino Agrati Collection. As every first Sunday of the month,input è price quotation for all visitors in all the museum locations of the Gallerie d'Italia.
The Luigi and Peppino Agrati Collection, formed between the 1960s and 1980s and incorporated into the Bank's historical-artistic heritage, includes ten works by Ryman.
The painting exhibited on this occasion belongs to the series Surface Veil created by the artist between 1970 and 1972
The painting bears witness to Ryman's investigation into materials with a particular attention to the process of making the work, of which the artist often leaves traces, such as the mark of the adhesive tape he applies to the corners of the canvas to keep it attached to the wall. The artist claims: “When I start, I'm never sure what the result will be. The process is actually making the painting, that's all.. "
The work on display belongs to the second group of the series, consisting of four larger works; the other three examples are now in the Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum in New York.
The Milan exhibition venue, together with those in Turin, Naples and Vicenza, is part of the Intesa Sanpaolo Gallerie d'Italia museum project, led by Michele Coppola, Executive Director of Art, Culture and Historic Heritage of the Bank and General Manager of the Gallerie d'Italia.
