Galaxy Note 7, Samsung explains why the battery exploded

The internal investigation of the South Korean electronics giant clarified that the problem was related to the quality of the components: irregular dimensions of the battery, production defects due to the strong acceleration of delivery times – Samsung: “We have taken various corrective actions to ensure this does not happen again in the future, including safety measures in the design phase and the eight-point battery verification plan

Galaxy Note 7, Samsung explains why the battery exploded

In the end, the culprit was there battery. To say it is Samsung Electronics, at the end of an internal investigation into "explosive smartphones": i Galaxy Note 7 which caught fire and which the company had to withdraw from the markets, suspending its production last October.

“Our investigation – reads the note of the South Korean electronic giant -, as well as the others completed by three independent industry organizations, concluded that the batteries were at the origin of the Note 7 accidents”, found the company South Korean in a note, closing the investigation.

In detail, the battery problem is related to them irregular size. Not adhering well to the phone, in fact, the batteries overheated until they exploded. A not entirely new problem in the production of smartphones and tablets, victims of the race for a very high-speed and low-cost production, which has never been so serious. The South Korean electronic giant also had similar problems with i refrigerators.

The problem mainly concerned the too low tolerance of the compartment in which they were placed inside the smartphone, while that of the replacement batteries (made by Amperex Technology) concerned defects in production, which evidently had been accelerated too quickly, to the detriment of the quality check. An almost incredible coincidence therefore: two defective batteries, for different reasons, produced by two different suppliers.

Samsung, which has renewed its apologies to consumers, also explains that it has taken "several corrective actions to ensure that this does not happen again in the future, including safety measures in the design phase and the eight-point battery verification plan" .

The cost of the 2,5 million Note 7 recall was estimated at €5,3 billion. Despite this disaster, and despite the judicial problems that have hit the top of the company in recent times, Samsung has recorded a profit beyond expectations in the fourth quarter, +50% compared to a year earlier at around 9.200 billion won (about 7,8 billion dollars).
