G7: Brexit alarm and migrants

“A UK's exit from the European Union would reverse the trend of expanding world trade and investment, as well as related job growth, and would pose a serious risk to growth,” which for all is “ urgent priority". The Heads of State and Government meeting in Japan for the G7 summit write this in their final considerations. The reference is to the Brexit referendum to be held in Great Britain on June 23rd.

On the issue of migrants, the document accepts the appeal launched by the EU to its partners stating that "migrants and refugees are a global challenge that requires a global response": for this reason it is necessary "to increase global assistance to support the needs of refugees, of the communities that host them" and cooperate with "our partners, especially those in Africa, the Middle East and neighboring countries of origin and transit".

Furthermore, the G7 "encourages temporary admission" and relocation schemes "to alleviate the pressure of the countries hosting the largest number of refugees". Also because "the number of migrants, asylum seekers and refugees is at the highest level since the Second World War".

As for Italy, according to Prime Minister Matteo Renzi “we are not in an emergency situation. We had 160 people in the worst year as an influx. There has been an increase in landings in the last few hours but this increase is neither at the levels of 2014 nor those of 2015".
