Futurism of the brothers Thayaht and Ram, inventors of the "Suit": a book edited by Leo S. Olschki

The book "FUTURISM AND 'BON TON" - The brothers Thayaht and Ram, edited by M. Pratesi presents an in-depth analysis of the entire artistic and historical viaticum of brothers Ernesto and Ruggero Michahelles, of Anglo-Saxon origin, known internationally by their pseudonyms of Thayaht and Ram, descendants, among others, of the most important American neoclassical artist, the sculptor Hiram Powers. An exhibition curated by Mauro Pratesi, was the result of a new and punctual overall reading of the documents and of the artistic-cultural and political events concerning the complex artistic production of the Michahelles brothers: from fashion, design, sculpture and painting, advertising graphics, scenography, photography. Eclectic and versatile personalities, especially Thayaht, were brought back to the fervent Parisian environment of the early XNUMXs, i.e. the time that had seen the phenomenal and overwhelming artistic and worldly trend of theArt Déco also called Style 1925, following the 1925 Paris International Exposition des Arts Décoratifs.

Thayaht was the inventor of the suit, the one-piece suit

And it was precisely in 1920 that Thayaht invented and created, with the collaboration of his brother, the Tuta, a universal "one-piece" suit for which he also conceived the neologism, which did not exist at the time, and from there to
shortly the dress would become the most famous item of clothing in the world. In this time,
Thayaht worked as a designer and creator of patterns for fabrics and other things for the famous Parisian fashion designer Madeleine Vionnet. In addition, Thayaht will design furniture, furnishings, objects and precious ornaments which will be exhibited at the first editions of the exhibition of decorative arts at the Monza Biennale, where in 1927 he will set up a personal room.

From 1929 Thayhat and Ram will officially adhere to Marinettian futurism, with a strong one
political leaning.

From the 40s the art of the Michahelles brothers will lead to secluded and solitary research which will see Thayaht retire definitively to his home in Pietrasanta, and devote himself mostly to the discovery of the cosmos and UFOs; while Ram will continue his artistic, poetic and lyrical research of the female nude.
