Escape from the cities: in Piedmont tender for small municipalities

Who knows if the economic incentives will really lead more citizens to live in mountain villages. Nothing to do with the holidays and the summer season, mind you. What the Piedmont Region has established - second after Emilia Romagna - is a kind of competition for those who want to move permanently. September XNUMXst leaves the tender of 10 million euros "so that anyone residing in an urban center and intending to buy or recover a property in a mountain municipality in Piedmont with less than 5 inhabitants will receive a grant of between 10 and 40 euros". A decision, so to speak, structural, conceived together with the Union of Mountain Municipalities - Uncem- which has been supporting its validity for some time.

Cities are suffocating, housing management costs are growing, sustainable lifestyles are often in antithesis with primary daily needs. Perhaps the success of policies that encourage living "outside the walls" will eventually be combined with the new forms of remote work. We'll see if that's the case. The fact is that Uncem has proposed to all the Italian Regions to work in this direction and so far not everyone has been listening to it. The 10 million euros of Piedmont look to new residences in the Alps that generate development, inclusion, encounter. New communities but also new identities, where cities are experienced at a distance, distant - the former citizens - from the hundred contradictions that animate them. This doesn't mean they have to feel isolated, new lovers of good living without noise and double glazing.

The mountain municipalities of Piedmont with less than 5 inhabitants who are the protagonists of the tender are 465 divided into all the provinces. It is already known that those born after 1955 will be able to participate in the announcement. But with the expectations for the youngest, for the most "eco" couples, those born after 1980 will receive a higher score. They are the most courted. Rewarding score also towards high-margin Municipalities, for smart-working or for construction work in homes with non-invasive architectural and landscape solutions. The environment must be respected: it is the bureaucratic political refrain of Piedmontese choices.

« We gave our support in drafting the tender, which follows the one for the 'Service shops' community houses. We must avoid together there are only transfers of residence which would then be ephemeral. New residences must generate community and opportunity. We need it," he said Roberto Colombero, President of Uncem of Piedmont. The money available is the main attraction. However, what must seriously stimulate the repopulation of small towns are new territorial policies for extra-urban connections. Solutions where work, study and culture needs are also present in the choices of those who govern the economy. For this reason, in addition to public tenders, small municipalities are waiting for investments and structures by entrepreneurs and services on the wave of the green economy.
