Fs: the Frecciarossa 1000 that connects Madrid and Barcelona is ready for its debut

The technical tests of the Frecciarossa 1000 on the railway line between Madrid and Barcelona. ILSA, a consortium owned by Trenitalia (FS Italiane Group), is in fact carrying out tests on the Spanish tracks, the last phase before the final homologation of the train on the Iberian railway network.

This will allow iryo, the trading name of the company, to offer passengers a new offer high speed by 2022 with the commercial sale phase to start between September and October.

The possibility of offering High Speed connections in Spain is part of a process that began in November 2019 with the assignment by ADIF, the manager of the Iberian railway infrastructure, of 30% of the connections on the HS network, an offer second only to Renfe, Spanish national operator. iryo will connect Madrid, Barcelona, Seville, Malaga, Cordoba, Valencia, Alicante and Zaragoza in a first phase and then extend to other connections.

The train that is carrying out the technical tests is one of the 20 new Frecciarossa 1000s built by Hitachi in the Italian factories with the same characteristics as those in circulation in Italy. The train is almost entirely recyclable and allows for asaving 80% of carbon dioxide per passenger each way and, precisely for these reasons, it has obtained the Environmental Impact Certification (EPD).

In Europe, the passenger hub of the FS Italiane Group, led by Trenitalia, is also present in French with Trenitalia France, active with connections between Milan and Paris and Paris and Lyon with the Frecciarossa 1000, in UK with Avanti West Coast and c2c, in Germany with Netinera, regional transport operator, in Greece with Hellenic Train and in Netherlands with the rubber operator Qbuzz.
