This was stated by the managing director of Ferrovie dello Stato, Mauro Moretti, at the beginning of the speech with which he presented his group's plan for the coming years in Milan.
“Every euro created or saved by the railways – he said – is a euro created or saved for the taxpayer. If there are alternatives to leading the group from this point of view, let these people come”. Moretti also claimed the work done over the years. “I have spoken to many FS chief executives from the past and they all said they have never found the task that hard. When I arrived in 2006, I found a dire situation. It took a big impetus to carry out the reconversion and rehabilitation and the alternative was bankruptcy, as has happened for many air, land and sea groups".
