FS will install 2.000 megawatts of renewable energy: Ferraris relaunches the objectives of the 2022-31 plan

The CEO Luigi Ferraris relaunches the objectives of the FS Group at the Communication Festival: it will have 10% of the renewable power currently installed. Started the first operational processes

FS will install 2.000 megawatts of renewable energy: Ferraris relaunches the objectives of the 2022-31 plan

The power of the FS Group's energy self-production plants will reach 2 Gigawatts and will increase the total power of the photovoltaic plants currently installed in Italy by about 10%. Already in 2024, with the first activations, the power will reach 300 MW. so theCEO of the Luigi Ferraris FS Group at the Camogli Communication Festival confirms the commitments of business plan 2022-2031 on energy at a time when Italy and Europe are having to face the most important energy emergency of the last 50 years.

The FS Group, one of the major energy-intensive companies to support its business, undertook with the Plan to reduce the country's dependence on foreign sources, contribute to the success of the PNIEC (Integrated National Energy and Climate Plan) and, therefore, to the transition energy and ecological.

Interviewed by Ferruccio De Bortoli, Ferraris recalled how attention to the issue of energy precedes the current crisis. It was of primary importance, since the FS Group consumes the 2% of the country's total demand, identify sources of self-production and become more autonomous.

Over 1,6 billion investments in renewable sources

“There is an investment plan worth over 1,6 billion that will allow us to produce energy from renewable sources – mainly photovoltaic and wind – able to satisfy at least 40% of our needs,” he said. Another line of action will concern theenergy efficiency with short and medium-term interventions: "They range from the contribution offered by the progressive renewal of the train fleet - the new generation ones consume 30% less than the previous ones - to the introduction of intelligent driving systems for passenger and freight transport - continued Luigi Ferraris – up to smart building measures for industrial plants and stations”.

Renewable sources: FS will install 300 MW of green energy by 2024

Returning to the subject of production, the number one of Ferrovie recalled that the group has planned "a pipeline of 2.000 megawatts of photovoltaic and small wind systems to be activated mainly in areas no longer functional to our core activities, and close to our infrastructures. The processes necessary for the construction of these plants - he specified - have already been started and the first constructions and activations will start from 2023, starting with a first group of plants capable of delivering, overall, by 2024, a power of around 300MW , serving the electrical substations of RFI, the railway stations, and the industrial sites of Trenitalia and Mercitalia".

FS is committed to achieving carbon neutrality in 2040, 10 years ahead of the European roadmap which envisages a "zero emissions" target by 2050.

The Pnrr will finance the growth of the railway network

With regard to the projects financed by the PNRR, Luigi Ferraris underlined how much these form part of an even broader strategy outlined in the ten-year Industrial Plan of the FS Group, which translates into an overall commitment over 190 billion in investments. "Among the objectives is the growth of the overall capacity of the railway network by at least 20%, also with the extension of cutting-edge technologies such as ERTMS, to make the lines less saturated", concluded Luigi Ferraris. “It should not be forgotten that we have infrastructures with an average age exceeding 70 years, which require continuous maintenance and show, in some cases, levels of saturation that compromise regularity e punctuality of the service".
