An important archaeological discovery accompanies the construction of the new railway line high speed and high capacity Naples-Bari. The infrastructure works have in fact brought to light finds of great historical value, transforming the construction sites into a journey through the past. The finds were discovered during the works carried out along the Naples-Cancello, Cancello-Frasso and Telese-Vitulano routes.

A bridge between history and modernity

Among the main findings, village dating back to the Copper Age in the Gaudello area, a stretch of the ancient Appian Way in the municipality of Maddaloni and a sanctuary of the Hellenistic-Roman era in Ponte, rich in votive material. But not only that: the excavations have also brought to light a perfectly preserved Roman villa in Solopaca and numerous burials of Campanian culture with precious funerary objects. Among the finds are coins, terracotta objects and bronze figurines, precious testimonies of daily life in past eras.

I findings, presented at the Naples Afragola station, are fruit of synergy between the FS Group and the archaeological superintendencies of the metropolitan area of ​​Naples and the provinces of Caserta and Benevento. Present at the event were Mariano Di Maio (Head of Environment and Territory RFI), Massimo Comedini (Head of Environment, Architecture and Territory Italferr), Mariano Nuzzo (Superintendent of Archaeology, Fine Arts and Landscape for the metropolitan area of ​​Naples and the provinces of Caserta and Benevento) and Ilaria Maggiorotti (President of Archeolog, Third Sector Body).

Archaeology at the service of railway development

Through in-depth preventive archaeology, the FS Group ensures that the construction of the new railway lines takes place in respect for the history of the territories crossed.

The new Av/Ac Napoli Bari line

La new AV/AC line Naples-Bari represents an ambitious project to strengthen and speed up the route that will connect the two cities, creating a direct connection with the Core Corridor “Scandinavia – Mediterranean”. This strategic infrastructure will not only improve the accessibility of the affected areas, but will also enhance national, long-distance, regional and freight rail services.

A once the work is completed, travel time between Naples and Bari will be reduced to just 2 hours, compared to the current 4, while the connection between Rome and Bari will be made in 3 hours, with a saving of two hours. The project, from total value of over 6 billion euros, will have a significant impact on the labor market tooOver 7.000 professionals – including engineers, technicians and workers – involved in the construction phases.
