The president of Ferrovie dello Stato, Gianluigi Castelli, is the new president of theUnion Internationale des Chemins de Fer (UIC), the world association that brings together all operators in the railway sector.

In detail, the UIC brings together over 200 companies, from 100 countries, operating on all five continents, with the aim of promoting rail transport worldwide to overcome the challenges of mobility and sustainable development.

"I am proud to take on such an important commitment which underlines FS Italiane's leadership at national and international level", underlined Gianluigi Castelli. "We will work in Italy with the UIC to improve the safety of the railway sector, the standardization of systems for cost reduction and technological exchange with other countries".

“Our task will also be – continued Castelli – to guarantee the development of public integrated mobility systems and to favor the digitization process of railway companies all over the world. We will also support the development of intercontinental rail freight corridors (One Belt One Road), banks that favor the development of railways and the development of finance schemes for sustainable projects (green bonds). Finally, we will closely monitor the introduction of self-driving vehicles”.
