They are Three offers were received by Trenitalia in the tender for the supply of the new regional trains. The nominations were made Ansaldo Breda, of the Finmeccanica group, in partnership with the Spanish Caf, the Canadian Bombardier and the French Alstom. The tender concerns the supply of 130 electric and diesel trains, plus an option for another 60, intended to modernize and enhance the regional train fleet, in line with the service contracts already signed with the Regions.
The value of the order can be estimated at around one billion and 250 million. The offer is divided into a technical proposal, which Trenitalia is evaluating initially, and an economic part which will be taken into consideration at a later stage. In fact, the notices provide for an award criterion with scores that will reward quality and delivery times more (60%) rather than price (40%). The tender evaluation process foresees rather tight deadlines which could lead to the awarding of the contracts by the summer.
