The high-speed rail network in Italy continues to expand. Also on the strength of the investments planned in the PNRR, the modernization of the rail infrastructure accelerates and is enriched with a new section: through its subsidiary Rfi, the FS group has in fact given the green light to the construction site, ahead of the initially planned schedule, of the Verona-Vicenza junction section, on the Verona-Padua high-speed line. The work has a total value of 1,77 billion. The completion of the final design is expected by 10 September 2021. Having obtained the resources with the Ministry of Infrastructure and Sustainable Mobility, the acceleration imprinted by FS is therefore aimed at allowing the activation by 2026 of this "Functional Lot Verona - Vicenza crossroads", which is part of the works proposed in the National Recovery and Resilience (PNRR) sent by the Italian Government to Brussels.

The work, also considered a priority in the 2020 Economic and Financial Document, constitutes a fundamental feature of the broader Trans-European corridor TEN-T «Mediterranean» and goes to expand the current AV / AC network of FS Italiane. The Verona-Vicenza crossroads section, now entirely under construction, is characterized by a lifetime cost of 2.470 million euro and a duration of the works of 74 months, extends for approximately 44 km in the Veneto Region, and is structured as follows : first Construction Lot, for an amount of 984 million euros, which includes the construction of part of the civil works, as well as the railway superstructure and the technological systems preparatory to the activation of the deviations of the Milan-Venice Historic Line; second Construction Lot, for an amount of 1.776 million euros, which provides for the completion of the civil works, as well as the construction of the superstructure and technologies for the entire Lot.
