Friuli: Fedriga wins and the Pd resists, M5S down

With the ballots almost completed, the League is the first party and wins 57,2% of the votes. Sergio Bolzanello, the centre-left candidate who gets 26,8% has already congratulated him on his victory. Fedriga: "Now in government with M5S". But Di Maio: "Return to the vote as soon as possible"

Friuli: Fedriga wins and the Pd resists, M5S down

Massimiliano Fedriga is the new governor of Friuli Venezia Giulia. In 1357 out of 1369 sections examined, the Lega candidate collected 57,2% of the votes, almost double the centre-left candidate Sergio Bolzanello. And Bolzanello himself let it be known that he called him to congratulate him on his victory. "I just heard Massimiliano Fedriga on the phone and I congratulated him on the result he has achieved, I will now stand in opposition with the spirit of someone who knows he is leaving a Region in excellent health and that he will have to stay that way for the next 5 years".

THE DATA – If the centre-right exceeds 57%, the centre-left stops at 26,8 per cent while the M5S collapses to 11,7%. Within the coalitions, the Lega – which becomes the first party in the Region with 35% – was awarded over Forza Italia and the Democratic Party over the other allies. Sergio Cecotti's Pact for Autonomy garners just 4,3%.

“The climate was good, but no survey gave these numbers: seeing the League with the highest percentage in history gives enormous satisfaction also because I am also the regional secretary: such a success had never happened before”, said Massimiliano Fedriga on the Radiouno broadcast “Gioco a premier”. “We said it and we repeat it: with the 5 stars it is possible to think about the ten points on which we agree and we base the discussion on this”, he explained, commenting on the national political scenario.

But Luigi Di Maio's answer is of a completely different tenor: “At this point there is no other solution, we need to return to the vote as soon as possible, then obviously President Mattarella will decide. Everyone is talking about inserting a ballot into the electoral system but the ballot is the next elections so I say to Salvini, let's go together to ask to go and vote and we will do this second round in June. Let the citizens choose between revolution and restoration”.

The turnout at the polls, which remained open from 7 to 23, was 49,63%. In 2013, when the vote was held over two days, the final turnout was 50,48%.

549.806 voters out of 1.107.415 eligible voters voted. The greatest turnout was recorded in the district of Udine, where 52,60% of those entitled voted. Followed by Gorizia (50,78%), Pordenone (49,80%), Tolmezzo (47,58%) and Trieste (43,90)%.

At the end of the ballot, the counting of the ballots for the renewal of administrative positions, on which the voters of 19 municipalities voted on Sunday, and the ballots of the consultative referendums for the establishment of two new municipalities will continue.
