France, Valls leaves the socialists: dead party

“The socialist party is dead. Not its values and its history, but it is now the past”. With these words, former premier Manuel Valls announced on the microphones of the radio station Rtl that he will run with En Marche in the next legislative elections in June. Emmanuel Macron's République en marche movement was born with the aim of giving a parliamentary majority to the president in the National Assembly; the names of the candidates in the 577 constituencies will be announced on Thursday.
But in the constituency of Manuel Valls "a candidate has already been chosen", replied the investiture committee of En Marche. "The investiture is not automatic" and will be done in "total independence", added En Marche. On Twitter, Christophe Castaner, one of Macron's loyalists, said that Valls will have to "apply".
