France, the ambassador returns. Spain: elections on April 28

Signs of thaw between Italy and France, after the phone call between the Presidents of the Republic Sergio Mattarella and Emmanuel Macron. The conversation reaffirmed the ties of friendship between Italy and France and buffered the diplomatic clash following the continuous provocations of some representatives of the Italian government against Macron, culminating in the choice of Deputy Prime Minister Luigi Di Maio to deal with the most violent fringes of the gilets Detective stories. After that episode, the French president had decided to recall the ambassador from Rome, a move that had never occurred since 1940, since the time of the fascist regime and the world war.

Just today, however, the official announcement arrived: the French ambassador Christian Masset "is leaving for Rome", guaranteed the minister for European affairs, Nathalie Loiseau, who, interviewed by a transalpine radio, also added that "the president of the Italian Republic , Mattarella, telephoned President Macron, they spoke, they said together how important the friendship between France and Italy is, at which point the two countries need each other. We have also heard from political leaders who had indulged in frankly unfriendly and unacceptable words or behavior show regret.”

If peace returns between Rome and Paris, the waters around Madrid will become agitated. As is known, the 2019 maneuver, presented to Parliament by the majority made up of socialists and Podemos, was rejected thanks to the contrary vote of the Catalan independence activists, who did not agree to lend a hand to Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez and therefore voted together with the opposition of centre-right, composed mainly of PP and Ciudadanos, thus condemning the Sanchez government to call new elections.

On Thursday there was talk of returning to the vote precisely on the day of the European Championships at the end of May, giving life to an electoral "super domingo" (in Spain on that date people also vote for municipal and regional elections). Instead, in the end, the Council of Ministers opted to bring forward a month by avoiding the super saunday and setting new elections for Sunday 28 April. Those of April 28 in Spain they will therefore be the third general election in less than four years, something new for a country that until recently was considered one of the most politically stable in the entire European Union.
