France: Macron comeback, Le Pen pitfall

The comeback of continues unstoppable Emmanuel Macron, the liberal-progressive candidate who could upset all the predictions of some time ago and sit, in a couple of months, on the most important seat in France, at the Elysée, which seemed to be contested between Marine Le Pen and some other candidate from the traditional parties . But, at least according to the latest polls, this will not be the case: for the leader of the Front National herself, the Trump effect would seem to be weakening, while the divisions within the Socialist Party and the judicial scandals that have hit the Republican candidate François Fillon have done the rest .

And so, after submitting a particularly ambitious programme, made up of public spending cuts never seen before in France, the detaxation of home tax for 80% of those who pay it and heavy investments in work, as well as a good dose of Europeanism, the former Minister of Economy of Hollande, not yet 40 years old, would have become the favorite both for a possible ballot, and even for a victory in the first round. According to Les Echos in fact FrJust in these days the "remuntada" on Marine Le Pen would be consuming, dropped from 27% to 26% of the votes, while Macron would now be pressing her with 25%, distancing Fillon who is still at 20%, the same percentage that both he and Macron had a month ago.

Later, however, Macron took flight, thanks to a centrist positioning that sees him gather support almost everywhere, from right to left. In fact, it is not difficult to imagine that his figure, should he reach the second round, could easily unite millions of French people who do not share Le Pen's extremist positions. There is nothing extreme about him, and moreover he also benefits from the division of the traditional left, the one represented by the Socialist Party, which with Benoit Hamon collects only 16% in the polls, but in the event of an alliance with the radical Melenchon he could have reached 26%, close to the favourites. In the second round however, according to the polls published by Les Echos, there would be no match: 60% Macron, 40% Le Pen.
