France, pensions: Berger, the leader of the first trade union (the CFDT), resigns, announcing the end of the mobilization

It may have been announced some time ago, but Laurent's resignation after more than ten years of leadership Berger, undisputed leader of the CFDT, The first trade union which looks a bit like our Cisl, are a fact of the first magnitude not only on the trade union level but also on the political level. Berger has wisely noted that the battle with strikes against the pension reform wanted by President Emmanuel Macron it failed because, after the go-ahead from the Constitutional Council, the Head of State has no intention of retracing his steps and withdrawing the reform that is now law.

FRANCE: BERGER ANNOUNCES END OF TRADE UNION MOBILIZATION AGAINST PENSIO REFORMN

It is no coincidence that Berger - who is expected to resign in June - announced the end of the mobilization against the reform, which cost more than 10 general strikes that weigh on workers' paychecks and which brought France to its knees without changing a reform that the others European countries have already done a long time to save the social security system. Berger also stated that he will support in his place the candidacy for secretary general of Marilyse Leon, current number two of CFDT who will thus have a female guide, as recently happened to CGT, where Sophie Binet surprisingly became number one.

FRANCE: WITH THE CHANGE OF THE GUARD AT THE GUIDE OF THE CFDT, A NEW SEASON WILL OPEN BETWEEN UNIONS AND MACRON?

But what matters most is how the CFDT will now move both towards the other trade union organizations and employers and towards the Government. With the bankruptcy battle against the pension reform archived, will a new season begin in relations between the Borne Government and the trade unions? It will be possible to start the social dialogue desired by President Macron and intended to address with the social partners the other hot topics on the table, namely the fight for work and against unemployment, the defense of wages in the face of inflation that does not want to go down , the reorganization of working hours and the reform of the Justice? Premature to make predictions but without the leaders of the general mobilization at the helm of CFDT and CGT anything could happen and perhaps we will already understand it in the next few weeks.
