France, Minister Fabius: "On Libya and migrants we are with Italy"

“Italy has a special bond with Libya, it has assumed a sort of leadership, as it should be. I think the Italians feel very busy: we are going in the same direction". French Foreign Minister Laurent Fabius said today on the sidelines of the summit organized in Rome by the Farnesina, in the presence of US Secretary of State John Kerry. Fabius then denied that France is pushing for a military intervention in Libya.

As for immigration, “France isn't afraid that Italy doesn't know how to manage the flows – added Fabius -. Italy has had to face a difficult year with the arrival of many refugees and the situation risks worsening as the crisis in Libya worsens. We know that the majority are refugees, we must work together to combat the phenomenon of false documents". Reports of theft and loss of passports have doubled in Europe over the last five years.

The minister tried to downplay the words spoken in recent days by his defense colleague Jean-Yves Le Drian on the risk of terrorist infiltration among the refugees who sail from the Libyan coast to Lampedusa.
