France, Martine Aubry in the running for the primaries

Will France have a female president? Now that's not such a remote possibility. Martine Aubry, secretary of the Socialist Party (PS), ran today for the primaries which will have to decide who will stand for the main French opposition force in the presidential elections scheduled for next year.
In short, Aubry could become the rival of Nicolas Sarkozy, who has not yet formalized his candidacy, even if this is taken for granted. The current president, however, is at the lowest in the polls.
Born in 1950, Aubry is the daughter of Jacques Delors, a socialist, president of the European Commission for a decade starting in 1985. Mayor of Lille since 2001 (although in reality she is Parisian), Aubry, as Minister of Employment and Solidarity, was at the origin at the end of the nineties of the reform which introduced in France (unique case in Europe) the 35 working week hours.
Before the scandal involving Dominique Strauss-Kahn, Aubry had given her support to the director general of the International Monetary Fund for the primaries. But opi has decided to take the field directly. Together with François Hollande, who has long been in contention, Aubry is the favourite.
