France, Macron 23% and Le Pen 22% towards the ballot

Emanuel Macron and Marine Le Pen will go to the ballot for the election of the new president of the French Republic who, according to the first projections, are clearly ahead of the Gaullist Fillon of the Gaullist right and Melenchon of the extreme left who do not reach 20%. Macron is ahead of everyone with over 23% of the votes while Le Pen is second with just under 22%.

Macron has a better chance of winning in the ballot because he can attract support from both the right and the left, while Le Pen, who took fewer votes than in the last regional ones where she reached 27%, is unable to forge new alliances and therefore hardly can collect more votes than today.

Immediately after the first round both the Gaullist Fillon and the socialist Hamon congratulated Macron and called on their parties to vote for him in the second round. Appreciation for Macron also from the outgoing socialist president Hollande.

In any case, if the first projections are confirmed, the lepenist avalanche does not exist, the traditional parties (republicans and socialists) emerge with broken bones and the liberal-progressive Macron establishes himself as the new man of France with beneficial effects on all of Europe and in a certain sense also on Italy for the defeat of populist and extremist positions.

It is very probable that tomorrow the financial markets will celebrate the narrow escape from the penist danger.
