The socialist candidate in the upcoming French presidential elections, Francois Hollande, launches the challenge to Sarkozy also in the European arena. After the alleged, according to Hollande, success of the Brussels agreements, which have seen the current transalpine president as the great protagonist above all of the controversy with the British premier David Cameron, the leftist candidate displaces everyone: “If I am elected, I will immediately propose to renegotiate that Treaty”.
“The current agreement – explained Hollande – it is not a good response to the sovereign debt crisis. If I am elected, I will propose to insert some important things that are missing, hoping that in the meantime France has not already been demoted ”.
And what is missing according to Sarkozy's main challenger (today the former premier Dominique de Villepin has also joined the presidential race, with a centrist candidacy)? "In particular, we need to include Eurobonds and absolutely lay the foundations for growth".
Currently, the socialist candidate leads the polls, some of whom credit him with 56% of the preferences of the French.
