The scales of Paris are starting to tip a little too much in the wrong direction. According to the latest data, the French trade deficit continued to rise in May, reaching 7,42 billion euros. An important increase compared to the 7,17 billion of the previous month. The main element of imbalance was energy. In this sector the value of imports rose to 41,60 billion, from 41,48 in April. Exports, on the other hand, dropped from 34,30 to 34,18 billion.
In the meantime, on the freight transport front, there is a new push towards the creation of the Turin-Lyon high-speed railway. Louis Besson, former mayor of Chambéry and head of the French delegation in the intergovernmental commission, explained that for him there are no alternatives to building the high-speed line because his country has "an interest in intercepting the flows of goods arriving from the East Europe and connect them with those from the South and the Iberian Peninsula".
