Francesco Caio: "Digital Italy at the heart of Poste's business plan"

Digital Italy, 2016 will be the year of the leap forward. This was discussed today in the workshop of the Agency for Digital Italy (Agid) entitled "The implementation of the Italian Digital Agenda and the new challenges of the web", in the presence of Sir Tim Berners Lee, internationally renowned scientist and inventor of the World Wide Web. Witnessing the increasingly concrete commitment of the Government, which met with public and private stakeholders on the issue of digitization of the country, there was the Minister of Public Administration Marianna Madia. You also present the former "Mister Agenda Digitale", appointed in 2011 by Prime Minister Mario Monti and now CEO of Poste Italiane, Francesco Caio: “We Italians have a vocation to present ourselves as precarious workers. Instead we must learn to celebrate what we know how to do”, said Caio, who can boast a birthright in the field of digital Italy also because he was the first to put pen to paper, at the request of the Berlusconi government, with a report that took his name in 2009, the serious problem of the digital divide and the resources needed to overcome it. More recently, at the time of his commitment to the Monti government, he outlined the plan to make Italy a connected country, despite the accumulated delays.

So today, at the Agid workshop, to take stock of strategies and steps to take towards full digitalisation, the number one of Poste was playing at home. "The fact that in an individualistic country like ours - he said - we can agree on standards is a fundamental step on the road to digital Italy": The reference is to the Spid and the digital identity that was started by government right now. And al work done between Inps, Telecom Italia, Agid and the government. "Poste has made this digitization a central point of its business plan, convinced that the company has a role to play, to shorten the digital divide, obviously on its own terrain: payments, e-commerce, savings ”. "Naturally - concluded Caio - a philosophical-cultural change is necessary and everything that is happening poses challenges in terms of skills also in the Public Administration".

The crux in the PA lies in the fact that in the future, due to digitalisation, it will need far fewer employees. “The hope – he concluded – is that they will find a place in other areas. The certain fact is that we are starting to produce a formidable mine of data. How to make it a generator of GDP, making it the raw material for a new economy, is our challenge". Agenda
