A car bomb exploded near a city in central Syria controlled by government forces, killing two people. The attack comes a few hours after the entry into force in the country of the truce negotiated between Russia and the United States, which started at midnight local time.
Shortly before the midnight deadline arrived (23pm on Friday in Italy), US President Barack Obama had warned the Damascus government and Russia that the "world will be watching you". In fact, Putin had wanted to clarify that "Isis, Al Nusra and other terrorist groups are not included" in the agreement, according to reports on Friday, Russian warplanes had intensified attacks on the positions of the Syrian rebels.
The UN special envoy for Syria, Staffan de Mistura, has announced that peace talks will resume on March 7 if the truce as a whole holds.
However, De Mistura has already said that he has no doubts that "there will be attempts to undermine this process", but added that "nothing is impossible, especially at this moment".
