Photovoltaic on the roof of the house, the Norwegian startup arrives

The ecological transition market in Italy is all to be explored and is also tempting to foreign operators. One of the segments so far more niche but for this very high potential is that of residential photovoltaic panels. How many homes today have them? Very few. How many will be in the future, thanks to the Green New Deal and the Recovery Plan funds? Probably many more. In Norway they have already understood this: in the Scandinavian country 98% of the national electricity requirement is covered by clean energy (against the good 35% in Italy), and in 2016 a startup was born, Otovo, which within five years became the Norwegian market leader in the sale of solar panels for private homes (60% share) and was admitted to listing on the Oslo Stock Exchange. Thanks to the participation of the Norwegian Sovereign Fund, the largest pension fund in the world and at the forefront of green investments, Otovo has 180 employees, 400 installers, over 5.500 systems installed, 140.000 panels and 38 MW installed in 7 countries: it is present in Sweden , in France, Poland and Spain.

Soon it will also be in Italy, where it will offer its business within everyone's reach: in fact Otovo resembles those platforms, already widespread for example in the insurance market, capable of comparing prices and offering the user a convenient solution in few minutes. In fact, through its app Otovo creates a digital marketplace that allows you to identify the best quality/price ratio in the installation of photovoltaic systems in the residential sector, comparing the offers of local panel assemblers. For all private citizens who wish to obtain clean solar energy from the roof of their home, the site is able to send a quote in two minutes, simply asking to indicate the address of the single-family house where you wish to have a photovoltaic system. Delivery takes place in just 24 hours. Otovo also helps to unravel the jungle of authorizations and bureaucracy: even if Italy is not Norway and the obstacles could be greater, the Scandinavian startup plans to provide a "turnkey" service here too, i.e. taking care of all administrative procedures of the case.

The cost depends on the home, but the average residential system in Italy has a power of 4,4 kW and a gross cost of around 6.000 euros: an important investment but one that can be paid for in just 4 years according to estimates, thanks to savings 50% off bills. The Otovo plant is guaranteed for five years, compared to the mandatory 2 years required by current legislation. Finally, the customer is not forced to purchase the service, but can also rent it for the duration deemed necessary. In this market, that by 2025 it will be worth 1,2 billion euros (also thanks to the tax deductions provided by the Ecobonus) and which in Italy is led by Enel X, Otovo expects to carve out a 10% share over the next three years and a turnover of 100 million euros by 2025. According to what emerges from 18 ° report "Italians, solar energy and the green economy", 78% of Italians believe that renewable sources are the future of energy.
