Photography: Prisca Tozzi, a book and an exhibition on the Aeolian Islands

Pavart contemporary art gallery presents the photo book APNESYA, by the photographer Prisca Tozzi, curated by Velia Littera and created with the sponsorship of the Municipalities of Lipari, Santa Marina Salina, Malfa and Leni, the Aeolian Islands Preservation Fund and Marevivo.

The photographs of Prisca Tozzi included in this publication capture the beauty of the many natural scenarios of the Aeolian Islands, and were taken over two months, September and October of last year, lived in close contact with the people, places and nature of the place. Photography always manages to capture moments by transforming them into real paintings and, since each of the seven Aeolian islands has its own distinctive character, each shot in this book contains the many shapes and colors that together form the scenography of a unique place in the world. Through her images, the photographer wanted to convey a very clear message: the beauty and magic of landscapes, the intensity of a gaze, the extraordinary harmony between sea and rock, but also the human gesture that violates and disfigures the environment, unaware of the environmental damage it is causing.

APNESYA is a set of photographs collected and transformed into a publication, instantaneous and indelible testimony of the natural beauty of the Aeolian Islands. Likewise, it is a cry of alarm that shakes the conscience of each of us and makes us understand that environmental education of the individual is the key to safeguarding our planet and the habitat of all. To reinforce the value of the numerous shots, some professionals, Francesca Orsi and Giuseppe Bolognini, Pier Francesco Grangiè, Gloria Fantini and Antonella Alberici, have left a written testimony enriching the contents of the book with very interesting texts that speak to us about photography, geology, biology, ethics and nature.
Davide Cortese, poet of Lipari, with his poem "Apnea" introduces the publication and Roberta Morzetti, sculptor, has created a sculpture that depicts the siren Apnesya, precisely, muse of the sea who gave the book its name.

The book will be previewed in Salina in the Amanei Library of Santa Marina Salina, while the curator of the library, Antonella Di Salvo, organized an exhibition of some of the photographs contained in Prisca Tozzi's book, from 27 August to 6 September 2020, in the Museum of the Sea and Salt at the Fanale di Punta Lingua also in Salina.

Prisca Tozzi was born in Rome in 1987. She lives and works in London, but travels frequently for work between Florence, Rome and Paris. Former chemist, in 2012 she attended a professional photography course based in Rome and decided to make her passion her work. In 2016 she completes her Bachelor of Art in Florence after a three-year degree course in Photography, Video and New Media. In 2017 she also becomes a qualified drone pilot. You have been collaborating for several years with art galleries for the realization of photographic projects related to art, design and architecture. At the moment she collaborates with a London fashion brand but she manages to reconcile routine with projects in tune with her careful photographic research. Her inspiration is mainly given by daily life, nature and the many trips made around the world that have made her more mature and attentive to ethical issues related to environmental protection. Her eclectic personality and outgoing character make her a spontaneous and cordial woman in her relationship with others, characteristics that undoubtedly help her to bring back in her photographs an instinctive poetic language, without barriers, with a lively perception of reality.
